6 Yemeni soldiers killed by al-Qaida

SAN'A, Yemen —  Six soldiers were killed in an al-Qaida attack on a patrol in the southern province of Shabwa, a Yemeni security official said.
The official said Sunday night that al-Qaida militants attacked the patrol in the southern town of Aqla with rocket propelled grenades and sprayed it with bullets.
Many foreign oil companies are located in the same area.
The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the press.
It is the second attack in less than a week by al-Qaida militants. The first attack, Thursday, claimed lives of five soldiers in the same province.
Shabwa is believed to be a hideout for al-Qaida militants including the U.S.-born radical cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, who was part of a failed terrorist Christmas Day attack on an airline.
