Akunis to lead ‘PC for Every Child’

Likud Beytenu MK Ofir Akunis, deputy minister for liaisoning with the Knesset, was appointed by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu this week to lead the ‘A Computer for Every Child’ project, which was established in 1996 to provide computers, software and training to disadvantaged children and enable them to acquire important computer skills.
“This is one of the most important social projects taking place in Israel,” Akunis said following his appointment.
“It is now clear that reducing the technological gaps is a critical element in reducing social disparities.”
Akunis added that he will work to “promote, strengthen and upgrade” the project. “The goal is clear: to get as many computers as possible to as many children as possible,” he continued. “True social justice is measured in deeds and performance, not in words.”
The initiative has distributed some 55,000 computer kits to children from all sectors in 196 communities.
