'Anti-Zionist Jewish terrorists want regime change in Israel,' Shin Bet charges

The Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) is denying allegations made by lawyers representing a far-right organization Thursday that it employed torture and other intimidation tactics while interrogating suspected Jewish terrorists involved in numerous crimes, including the torching of a home belonging to Palestinians in the West Bank village of Duma.

The Honenu organization, which provides legal counseling to Jewish terrorists, soldiers, and other civilians suspected of crimes against Palestinians, staged a news conference on Thursday during which it accused Shin Bet investigators of violating civil rights of Jewish detainees.

In an extraordinary move, the Shin Bet was moved to respond to the allegations.

“In recent days, a group of Jewish terrorists has been investigated after suspicions emerged that they committed serious attacks that endangered human life, property, and religious symbols,” the Shin Bet said in a statement.

“This group is characterized by an extremist, anti-Zionist ideology whose goal it is to act through violent means in order to bring about regime change in Israel,” the Shin Bet said. “One of the ways of doing this is to carry out terror attacks that would bring this goal closer.”
