An employee of the UN Department of Safety and Security (DSS) was killed, and another employee was wounded after their vehicle was hit as they traveled to the European Hospital in Rafah on Monday morning, Farhan Haq, deputy spokesman for the UN Secretary-General, said Monday evening.
The Israeli defense establishment is investigating if they were wounded by IDF or Hamas fire, according to Israeli media.
Photos published by Palestinian media showed a UN vehicle with damage to several windows.
UN condemns attack
"The Secretary-General condemns all attacks on UN personnel and calls for a full investigation. He sends his condolences to the family of the fallen staff member," said Haq.
"With the conflict in Gaza continuing to take a heavy toll – not only on civilians, but also on humanitarian workers – the Secretary-General reiterates his urgent appeal for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire and for the release of all hostages."
