Barak speaks out against giving vote to Israelis overseas

Defense Minister Ehud Barak on Tuesday evening spoke out against giving Israelis living abroad the right to vote in Israeli general elections.
“I strongly oppose the granting of the right to vote to Israelis who live abroad," he said in a meeting at the Defense Ministry.
Barak went on to say that the voting franchise should be reserved for "those who are with us here, and who are exposed to all the dangers that result from that fact.”
Earlier Tuesday, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu announced a proposal that would allow Israelis living overseas to vote in the next parliamentary elections for the first time.
