Cabinet approves extension of Gaza evacuees' eligibility for housing

The cabinet on Sunday approved a proposal to extend the eligibility of families that were evacuated from the Gaza Strip and northern Samaria in 2005 to live in temporary housing. Prime Minister's Office Director-General Eyal Gabai said that "even though four years have passed since the disengagement, over 90 percent of evacuees have yet to move into permanent housing." "The government has a moral obligation to complete the mission. Therefore, the prime minister has instructed me to work towards a systematic solution, as well as providing a response to concrete problems," Gabai said. "In the context of dealing with the concrete problems, there is - in the decisions submitted for cabinet approval - provision for extending the eligibility for temporary housing, and budgetary assistance for students in the upcoming academic year," the official concluded.
