Defense minister approves shortened IDF service

Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon approved a plan by the IDF to shorten the length of mandatory military service by four months.
The plan, formulated by IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Benny Gantz, will see conscripts who join the military from July 2015 onward serve for 32 months.
The plan is based on on a set of conditions, including an equal amount of service for male and female soldiers who are carrying out the same functions, and an increase in the burden of military service throughout Israeli society.
