Ethiopian community and leaders mourn the dead at Mt. Herzl

Government officials and representatives of the Ethiopian community converged on Wednesday at Mt. Herzl for a memorial ceremony dedicated to Ethiopian Jews who died on their way to Israel.
Meanwhile, opposition leader Tzipi Livni addressed the Knesset plenum which had convened in honor of Jerusalem Day, calling the story of Ethiopian Jewry the "greatest symbol of Zionism and [testament to] the place Jerusalem occupies in the hearts of the Jewish people, as well as the price they paid to get to Jerusalem and live there."
Four thousand people were mourning the dead at Mt. Herzl, she said, stressing that they had died "on their way to Jerusalem, not the State of Israel ... for it was Jerusalem that they had dreamed of in Ethiopia."
