France to send military liaison officers to Libya

PARIS - France will send military liaison officers to Libya to support opposition rebels that are locked in a conflict with Muammar Gaddafi's army, government spokesman Francois Baroin said on Wednesday.
"There will be a small number of liaison officers (placed) with the national transition council in order to organize the protection of the civilian population," Baroin told a news briefing, stressing that there was still no intention of sending foreign troops into the North African country.
He said the number of French liaison officers would be in single digits.
