Full Metronit service in Haifa to begin Friday

The full operation of the Haifa region’s Metronit bus rapid transit (BRT) system will kick off on Friday, in addition to an overhaul of regular bus routes throughout Haifa, Tirat Carmel, Nesher and other suburbs, the municipality said.
Employing approximately 40 kilometers of exclusive BRT lanes, the low-to-the ground Metronit buses feature 84 efficient diesel and six hybrid vehicles, and will initially provide passengers with free rides – until further notice.
“This is a real revolution,” said Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz. “I hope that the Metronit’s operation will change the reality of transportation in the Haifa metropolitan area, which will become a model for other cities across Israel and will encourage public transport.”
