Giant flock of pelicans crosses skies over Israel en route to Africa

Giant flock of pelicans

Some 5,000 pelicans flew over the Jezreel Valley on Thursday, in their migration to their seasonal home in Africa. The Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel (SPNI) reported that through the course of the day the birds continued on their path via the skies over Rosh Ha'ayin, Petah Tikva and the southern coastal plain. Some 50 km northeast of the Jezreel Valley, another valley hosts one of the worlds' largest concentration of migrating birds every winter. From October until March the wetlands of the Hula Valley serve as a key stop for birds flying along the Syro-African rift, regarded as the largest avian flyway in the world.
