Government approves changes to 'Rights of the Student' Law

The government on Sunday approved an amendment to the 'Rights of the Student' law, according to which a student who appeals expulsion will not be allowed to return to classes until after a meeting with a representative from the educational institution, the child, and his/her parents is held. Army Radio quoted the Education Ministry as saying that the initiative aims to prevent situations whereby a child is attacked at school, and then forced to return to a situation where their attacker is still in attendance. Education Minister Gideon Sa'ar said he would work towards getting the amendment approved by the Knesset immediately, in order to have changes in place in time for the upcoming school year.
