Government votes to extend terms of police, prison chief

With the police reeling over the revelations that National Crime Unit head Menashe Arbiv is under investigation for suspected bribery connected with Rabbi Yosef Pinto, the cabinet on Sunday extended by a year the term of National Police Commissioner Yochanan Danino.

Prime Minister Binyamin praised Danino, saying there has been a "significant improvement" in the police, particularly in terms of "fighting crime and traffic accidents." He said that the decision to extend by another year Danino's term, which began in January 2011,  came at the recommendation of Public Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovitch.

Likewise, the cabinet also extended the term of Prison Services commander Aharon Franco by a year, with Netanyahu praising him as well for "important work, especially of late in regards to the infiltrators." He was first appointed in April 2011.
