IDF constructing barrier to protect Metula from Hezbollah

The IDF on Monday began constructing a security barrier over a kilometer in length this week around the northernmost town of Metula, to protect its inhabitants from potential Hezbollah attacks.
The wall, which will rise to a height of 5-7 meter (16-23 feet) is being built in coordination with the UNIFIL peacekeeping force in southern Lebanon, which has in turn notified the Lebanese army.
The IDF spokesman unit said in a statement on Monday that the barrier will serve to reduce tensions and improve security in the area.
Hezbollah maintains a presence in southern Lebanese villages, and security forces are concerned that gunmen from the Shi'ite terror organization could open fire on Metula.
