IFCJ to assist needy families following child allotment cuts

Following the Treasury’s decision to cut the budget for National Insurance Institute child allotments last month, the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews announced the launch of an extensive operation to assist children and single-parent families in need in Israel.

As part of the initiative, the Fellowship will donate NIS 500 food shopping vouchers to some 6,300 single parent families in public housing; NIS 300 clothing vouchers for 7,000 children in welfare boarding schools all over the country; and some 4,000 backpacks and school supplies for children of public housing.

The operation will serve in total some 13,000 families. Some 8000 lone soldiers in need will also benefit from the aid.

"This holiday, the worsening the situation of the poor is well felt,” President of the Fellowship, Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein said in a statement, “Budget cuts, such as cuts in child allowances, along with the continuous rise in prices of all basic products add an unbearable burden on the backs of the most vulnerable in society.”

Eckstein stressed that the IFCJ received a significant number of requests for help this year, ahead of Rosh Hashana.
