Iran starts impeachment proceedings against Salehi

Iran's parliament has launched impeachment procedures against Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi, AFP reported Tuesday.
This comes following the move by Salehi to appoint Mohammad Sahrif Malekzadeh as one of his deputy foreign minsters, set to be charge of financial and administrative affairs.
Malekzade was a top official in the high council of Iranian affairs abroad, where he had worked for Esfandiar Rahim Mashaie, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s chief of staff.
Mashaie has proved to be a divisive figure and has faced repeated calls for his dismissal from ultra-conservatives and the Shi'ite clergy. According to the impeachment notice, he may have criminal charges pending against him over "financial and non-financial cases."
This association of Malekzadeh with Mashaie has led to the calls for Salehi's impeachment, with Salehi due to appear before parliament within ten days in order to ask for a vote of confidence and to present his case.
