The Iranian parliament has dismissed the transportation minister and ally of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in the wake of several deadly plane crashes in the country.
The move will likely deepen differences between the legislature and Ahmadinejad.
The conservative-dominated 290-seat parliament voted 147-78 to immediately dismiss Hamid Behbahani. Nine lawmakers abstained while the others were absent during the vote.
Criticism of Behbahani has cited mismanagement, the plane crashes and Iran's high death toll in road accidents.
In early January, 77 people died when a Boeing-727, operated by Iran's national airline, crashed during emergency landing in a snowstorm in northwestern Iran.
