Israel to ease Gaza blockade, allow building materials

Israel will begin permitting the import of construction materials for corporate and private use into the Gaza Strip, AFP reported Wednesday, under the terms of last month's Egyptian-mediated ceasefire agreement with Hamas that ended Operation Pillar of Defense.
"Up to 20 trucks will bring in gravel for the commercial sector daily, except on Friday and Saturday,...through the Kerem Shalom crossing in south-east Gaza," AFP quoted Palestinian official Raed Fattuh as saying.
"This is the first time Israel will allow the import of gravel for the private sector since the blockade began in mid-2007," he added.
Guy Inbar, a spokesman for the Defense Ministry, confirmed the report, according to AFP, saying the November agreement with Hamas also would allow into Gaza heavy construction vehicles such as bulldozers.
