J'lem police raise alert level ahead of 'Land Day' protests

Jerusalem police raised the alert level in the capital on Thursday ahead of events for the 36th annual Land Day, during which pro-Palestinian activist groups planned protests for the Global March to Jerusalem.
Thousands of police officers will fan out across Jerusalem, with an emphasis on the alleyways of the Old City and crossings such as the Kalandia checkpoint to Ramallah and the Rachel Checkpoint to Bethlehem, said Jerusalem police spokesman Shmuel Ben Ruby. Magen David spokesman Zachi Heller said that ambulances and paramedics will raise their alert levels starting early Friday morning through the weekend.
