J'lem to build housing for young residents, not villas

Hundreds of apartment units for young residents will be built in the capital's Kiryat Yovel in place of the high-end villas that were slated to be built there, Israel Radio reported on Tuesday, citing an announcement by the Jerusalem Municipality.
A severe housing shortage has in recent years driven many young Jerusalem residents, as well as students at the city's universities, to build their lives and careers elsewhere in Israel.
Kiryat Yovel, a neighborhood southwest of Jerusalem, is popular among students at the Hebrew University's Givat Ram and Ein Kerem campuses.
