Junior university staff agree to end two-week-long strike

Junior university faculty agreed to end their strike Saturday night after reaching a deal on work conditions with the Committee of University Presidents.
The strike, which began two weeks ago on the first day of the spring semester, affected classes at most major Israeli universities.
The junior faculty, represented by the Coordinating Forum of Junior Academic Staff Associations in Israel, was asking for multi-year contracts for junior staff, as well as increases in their salaries and those of teachers’ assistants, greater regulation in the awarding of grants and increased career advancement opportunities for junior faculty.
As a result of the agreement, junior university faculty will receive raises of between eight and 16 percent, as well as new arrangements that will grant them increased job security, according to Israel Radio.
