Kalansawa mayor to be held until conclusion of his trial

The Petah Teikva District Court extended the remand for Kalansawa Mayor Mahmoud Hadija, 51, until the end of court proceedings in his case.
Hadija was charged last month with extortion against members of the city council, accepting bribe, and breach of trust.
In late June, the mayor, along with other City Hall employees, was arrested after a suspect, an employee at City Hall, divulged details about Hadija's illicit activities to police investigators, Channel 10 reported.
The city of Kalansawa, located near the Alexander River just west of Taybeh and part of the Triangle region, has been at the center of controversy this year, after Municipal Director-General Wiyam Zamirou was shot to death in the city.
Police investigating the murder determined that the Zamirou was killed for reasons related to his position as the municipal director-general, making it the first time in Israel's history someone was killed for acts related to the municipal position, Channel 10 said.
