Lapid’s salary docked for missing too many days in Knesset

Yesh Atid chairman MK Yair Lapid’s salary was docked for missing 32 Knesset meetings, eight more than is permitted.
Because this was his first time missing too many days of work, the Knesset Ethics Committee chose to only cut four days’ worth of his pay.
Lapid, who has taken it upon himself to act as shadow foreign minister, responded that he spent the time representing Israel around the world, fighting boycotters and others who seek to delegitimize Israel. The committee responded that MKs are given enough time to do such things without surpassing the permitted amount of absences.
Lapid was the only lawmaker whose salary was docked. MKs Taleb Abu Arrar (Joint List) and Miki Rosenthal (Zionist Union) missed more than the allotted days for health reasons. Each were absent twice more than permitted. The former did not have doctors’ notes and was given a warning, while the latter had doctors’ notes, so the committee saw the absences as justified.
