Lebanese army to send brigade to protect UN peackeepers

The Lebanese army announced that it will send a brigade south to help UNIFIL peacekeepers in southern Lebanon on Friday after a series of clashes between villagers and peacekeepers occurred in the past two weeks, AFP reported.
"We commit ourselves 100 percent to protectig the UN Interim Force in Lebanon against any attack, Lebanese army chief General Jean Kahwaji was cited by AFP as saying in an interview with the An-Nahar newspaper. Kahwaji continued, "There will be no repetition of recent incidents in the south."
A week before, a patrol of French peacekeepers was attacked by villagers, who disarmed the soldiers and pelted them with rocks and eggs.
