Liberman: Netanyahu's apology a serious mistake

Foreign Minister and chairman of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, Avigdor Liberman, said that Israel's apology to Turkey is a "serious mistake," Army Radio reported Friday.
Liberman added that an applogy of this sort diminishes the motivation of IDF soldiers and encourages extremist acts in the region, and that the current Turkish leadership is soley responsible for the diminished relations between the two countries.
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke on the telephone Friday for the first time since 2009. During the call, Netanyahu apologized for the loss of lives during the Marvi Marmara incident. The two leaders discussed the previous expulsion of ambassadors in addition to dropping charges against IDF soldiers.
The Labor Party greeted the development, and stated that it is in accordance with Israel's strategic interests, from a regional and international perspective.
