Livni: Israeli's Nobel is 'pride' for entire Jewish nation

Opposition leader Tzipi Livni congratulated Dan Schechtman Wednesday for winning the Nobel Prize. "Professor Shechtman's Nobel winning is a matter of pride for the State of Israel and the entire Jewish nation," she said in a statement.
"There's no end to the pride of today's great achievements," Livni continued, "but it is upon us to expand and invest in education and higher education to continue developing Israel's human capital."
The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for 2011 to Shechtman of the Technion, the Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa earlier Wednesday for his discovery of quasicrystals, which have non-repeating patterns.
Shechtman is the tenth Israeli or Israeli-born scientist to win a Nobel Prize, and the third to win for chemistry.
