The Haifa District Court on Monday convicted a 35-year-old man from Arraba in the lower Galilee of murdering his pregnant wife.
According to the indictment, Fahim Assala stabbed and then strangled his wife in September 2010, after deciding to kill her following an argument. Assala stabbed his wife several times in the chest, back and hip.
The court found that Assala was not mentally ill or suffering from a psychotic episode at the time of the attack and therefore could not enter an insanity plea.
The couple had been married for several years and have four young children.
