Ministerial panel on prisoner release convenes to approve list of first 26 to be freed

The ministerial panel on the release of Palestinian security prisoners convened Sunday night to approve a list of the first 26 prisoners to be freed ahead of the renewal of peace talks expected to be held on Wednesday.

Upon the meeting's expected conclusion after midnight, the names will be made public of the first of four groups of prisoner to be released in stages depending on the progress of Israeli-Palestinian negotiation.

Due to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's emergency surgery late on Saturday, Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon replaced the premier in leading the panel.
