Ministry cracks down on food firm over Salmonella

The Health Ministry decided on Sunday evening that the Hanasich company, which manufactured raw tehina with Salmonella bacteria that was used to make Shamir Salads’ and other companies’ products, was “negligent, irresponsible, unworthy and unprofessional.”
After long hours of hearing the company’s side, the ministry said that “at this stage, the company is forbidden to manufacture and market its products.” Hanasich was also instructed to destroy its infected products.
The ministry said that the investigation “is not over. Today, additional samples were taken in the factory [located in the Eilabun Industrial Area, 15 km. southwest of Safed] and tests on the way to market. At the end of the investigation, the ministry will consider the legal steps that are necessary as a result.”
