MK Zahalka: Liberman aims to weaken Arab community

Israeli Arab MK Jamal Zahalka, the head of the Balad party, on Wednesday responded to Yisrael Beytenu leader MK Avigdor Liberman, who said on Tuesday that Israeli Arabs should be made citizens of the Palestinian Authority in any future peace agreement.
“We are opposed to this proposal because his [Liberman’s] goal is to weaken the Israeli Arab community and we are not choosing to be weakened,” Zahalka told The Jerusalem Post on Wednesday. He believes that Liberman’s plan of a land exchange where Israel would keep major settlement blocks and Israeli Arab towns in Israel would become part of a future Palestinian state, is not realistic. Furthermore, he said, “Israel would win twice; it would have less Arabs here and get more land.”
Zahalka also said that Liberman’s plan has traveled abroad and that he is being asked about it. “I told them that there is a rejection to this idea in our community. More than 90% are against it.”
“Israel has made life in the West Bank a hell and intolerable, and nobody wants to move there,” he said.
