National Union party ousts Yaacov Katz

The central committee of the national unions, TEKUMA party voted Sunday night to prevent national union chairman Yaacov Katz from running with the party in the January 22 general election.
The central committee voted 23 to 10 to reject a proposal by MK Uri Ariel to reserve the second slot on the list with Katz. The committee decided instead to make Ariel their top candidate and select the rest of the parties contendors on their own.
Ariel told reporters prior to the vote that the Bayit-Vegan guest house that the party needed someone of Katz's stature near the top of the list. But central committee members said he had broken too many bridges and was detrimental to the party's future.
Ariel will be followed on the list by former national religious court chairman Eli Ben Dahan, Zvulun Kalfa and Hebron activist Orit Struk.
