Navy chief orders return to diving exercises following death of commando

Navy Commander Admiral Eliezer Maromto ordered the commencement of diving in routine exercises Tuesday. Such dives were halted following the death of navy commando Gal Azulai in a diving accident in the Ashdod Port on Monday. The 19-year-old Azulai, from the elite Flotilla 13 unit, was training for diving maneuvers in enemy ports. He had been in the water for about 90 minutes and was diving at a depth of three meters when his partner noticed that he was in distress, navy sources said. The commission of inquiry set up to investigate the incident immediately transferred Azulai's equipment to experts to check if a technical failure caused the death. It is still unclear whether the death was caused by equipment failure, or human error.
