North Korea to hold conference prior to rocket launch

North Korea said Monday its ruling party would hold a special conference on April 11, bolstering the power of its young leader Kim Jong-Un just before a major anniversary and the planned launch of a long-range rocket, AFP reported.
The conference is scheduled for the 100th anniversary on April 15th of the birth of North Korea's founding president, and the present leader's grandfather, Kim Il-Sung. The meeting also continues the line of events to strengthen the new leader's legitimacy.
The rocket launch, purportedly to put a satellite into orbit, is set for sometime between April 12 and 16 to commemorate the anniversary.
Many nations, including the US, South Korea and others view the launch as a pretext to circumvent the UN ban on long-range missile tests.
