Officials: US strike kill Taliban leader's brother

ISLAMABAD  — Pakistani officials say the brother of asenior Afghan Taliban commander has been killed in a US missilestrike in northwest Pakistan.

The two officials said Friday thatMohammed Haqqani and three other close associates of Siraj Haqqani werekilled when missiles hit a house in Dande Darpa Khel in NorthWaziristan, near the border with Afghanistan. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.

Theysaid the attack was apparently aimed at Siraj Haqqani, who is accusedof masterminding ambushes of US troops in Afghanistan. They said itwas not known if Siraj Haqqani was hurt in the strike.

The officials initially said his son was killed in the strike, but later corrected themselves that it was his brother.
