Pri Galil fruit packing factory lays off 58 veteran workers

Fifty-eight veteran workers who have been in their jobs for over 20 years were laid off Tuesday morning by the Pri Galil fruit packing factory in Hatzor Haglilit. Two years ago, the factory was saved from closure when it was bought out by supermarket chain Hatzi Hinam, adding 100 workers to the factory's workforce at the time.
Pri Galil management put the blame of the government, saying that the layoffs were unavoidable after government guarantees to lower the factory's tax payments were not honored and that promised cash grants were not delivered, Army Radio reported. Workers said that they would being a public struggle following the layoffs.
