Public Security Minister: Police will soon face unprecedented challenges

Public Security Minister

The Israel Police will face unprecedented challenges in the near future, Public Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovitch told a group of officers who received a commendation for excellence during a ceremony at President Shimon Peres's residence in Jerusalem on Monday. "We are entering decisive days, [regarding] challenges from within and from the outside," Aharonovitch said. "You will be there to unite the ranks, by showing professionalism and creativity," he added. "The relative calm is deceptive. Beneath the surface, things are boiling, and we cannot know when a flareup will take place, on any front," Aharonovitch said. Addressing the arson attack on a mosque in the West Bank village of Yassuf, Aharonovitch condemned the arsonists and expressed hope that they "will be arrested and placed on trial."
