Rivlin reconsiders decision to fly MKs in business class

After weathering almost two days of intense criticism, Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin (Likud) backtracked Tuesday night on his decision to allow MKs to fly in business-class seats during short-haul flights.
Although Rivlin’s office maintained that the Speaker had simply codified the system that was already in practice, Rivlin decided to freeze the implementation of the decision. Instead, Rivlin and Knesset Dir.-Gen. Dan Landau consulted Ethics Committee chairwoman MK Shelly Yacimovich (Labor), former Ethics Committee chairmen MKs Haim Oron (Meretz) and Aryeh Eldad (National Union) and current House Committee chairman Yariv Levin (Likud).
Following the consultation, Rivlin announced that the four – Oron, Yacimovich, Eldad and Levin – would debate the relative benefits and drawbacks to flying MKs in business-class seats and submit their conclusions to the speaker’s office.
