Russia reiterates distaste for Iran sanctions
Russia reiterates distas
Russia's top foreign ministry spokesman said that Moscow remains opposed to sanctions for Iran over its plans to step up uranium enrichment.
Andrei Nesterenko said at a televised briefing on Thursday that "the language of sanctions is not our language."
Teheran's recent announcement of its intentions to build 10 new uranium enrichment plants at first appeared to have pushed Moscow toward tougher sanctions. Russian President Dmitry Medvedev strongly reiterated recently that Moscow is against expanding the ranks of the world's nuclear powers.
But Nesterenko's words appear to return Russia to a softer position.
Washington is leading calls to ramp up the pressure on Iran, fearing further enrichment could lead to weapons-grade uranium.ByREUTERS06/08/2025 07:57 AMByREUTERS06/08/2025 05:36 AMByMAARIV06/07/2025 02:33 PMByWALLA!06/07/2025 11:18 AMByREUTERS06/07/2025 03:25 AM
