Schneller: Women must play part in selecting judges

The public trust in the rabbinical court depends on the involvement of women "shaping its face," said Thursday MK Otniel Schneller (Kadima), a key member of the Committee for Appointing Rabbinical Judges.
Reacting to the High Court of Justice's decision to postpone convening the Committee Schneller said: "The fact that the Halacha forbids women to be judges, requires that we as society see the necessity of women's influence in selecting judges."
"Lawyers made a grave mistake in increasingly excluding women from influencing the committee and in choosing only men as representatives, due to political interests only. The Court did will to request to examine the issue from the perspective of  the good of the public, and in ordering to delay the convening of the committee," he said.
