Shas spiritual leader throws support behind residents

Shas spiritual leader Rabbi Ovadia Yosef declared his support for the some 582 medical residents who have resigned over to a labor dispute with the government, saying it is the government's duty to do everything in its power for the benefit of the nations physicians, and especially residents, Israel Radio reported on Tuesday.
Rabbi Yosef reportedly met with Interior Minister and Shas MK Eli Yishai on Tuesday to discuss the ongoing labor dispute. The interior minister, unlike Rabbi Yosef, has called on interns to return to their wards, Israel Radio reported.
Medical residents have rejected the terms proposed by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, arguing that their acceptance of a pay raise should not be conditional on full employment in the public healthcare system.
