Social workers to suspend services following attacks

Social workers, including those caring for children at risk, will suspend services countrywide Monday in response to a particularly violent attack against social service employees in Dimona Thursday.
According to a statement sent out Saturday by the Social Workers Union, death threats and punches were thrown Thursday in Dimona as social workers attempted to find a solution for a child at risk.
“The violence that social workers experienced Thursday in Dimona was one step too far,” commented Itzhik Perry, head of the union. “Most government offices provide security to their employees and legislation has even passed to punish those who attack social workers, so why has this not been implemented yet?” The union said its central demand was for the government to find a way to provide better protection for social workers.
