Steinitz: Media must be extensive, diverse, competitive

Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz called for Israel to maintain "extensive, diverse, competitive media," saying it was in the state's interest to do so, Israel Radio reported Thursday.

"We obviously do not interfere with private companies in the private market," he said, "but when we're talking about a regulatory framework set by the state, we also approved several relief measures that will allow all the channels in Israel to continue functioning despite the difficulties they face."
