Syrian protesters demand freedom for detainees

AMMA - Around 2,000 residents of the eastern Damascus suburb Saqba marched through its main streets on Friday demanding the release of hundreds of relatives arrested by security forces in the last few days, a witness said.
"The people want the overthrow of the regime," chanted the the demonstrators, whose voices were audible by phone.
The witness said some of the demonstrators were trying to march toward central Damascus, 6 km (four miles) away, but security forces had blocked all the roads leading to the capital from the suburbs.
