Transport Ministry workers arrested in car theft gang bust

Police launched an undercover investigation against a gang of alleged car thieves in the North of Israel and the West Bank, including two employees of the Transport Ministry in Haifa.
Police said the suspects located new cars via a database they accessed through an employee at a Carmiel garage, stole the vehicles, and drove them to Jenin in the West Bank, where they were fitted with new license plates and registered as new cars.
"The suspects were helped by two Transport Ministry employees in Haifa who cooperated with the gang in exchange for bribes," police said. The cars were then returned to Israel and placed on the car market as legally registered vehicles.
