Transportation minister okays Ben Gurion night operation

Transportation Minister Israel Katz, approved on Thursday the nighttime operation of Ben Gurion International Airport for the duration of the upgrade work on the airport’s runways.
The construction, which is expected to take nearly a year, is meant to increase runway traffic and security and help Ben Gurion Airport handle its expected rise in flight volume in the next few years.
Until now the airport has been closed for takeoffs and landings from 1:40 am to 4:50 am.
Katz said that nighttime takeoffs would only be permitted for aircraft that meet the maximum allowed noise levels.
