Turkey bans pro-Kurdish party over ties to rebels

Turkey bans pro-Kurdish

Turkey's Constitutional Court shut down the country's pro-Kurdish political party on Friday evening on charges of ties to Kurdish rebels. In its ruling, the court banned dozens of members from joining other political parties for five years and expelled two of its legislators from parliament. The expelled lawmakers include party leader Ahmet Turk. The verdict is likely to further complicate the Turkish government's efforts to reconcile with the country's Kurdish minority, in order to end the 25-year-old feud with rebels seeking autonomy.
