UN chief warns of growing political polarization

UNITED NATIONS — The UN chief is warning of growing political polarization and social inequalities in the world and urging greater tolerance and mutual respect.
In his keynote speech to the opening of the General Assembly's annual ministerial meeting Thursday, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon told world leaders from the 192-member nations that "today, we are being tested."He said people everywhere live in fear of losing their jobs, many are caught in conflict, and many speak "the language of hate."
In such times of polarization and uncertainty, Ban said the United Nations remains the indispensable global institution for the 21st century to promote "global common cause."
