UN Security Council worries of renewal of conflicts in Sudan

The UN Security Council discussed tensions in the Darfur region of Sudan, expressing concern for a renewal of clashes between Sudanese army forces and Darfurian militias Israel Radio reported Wednesday. UN representatives reported that more than 40,000 residents have fled Darfur in the last two months.
Some Security Council members complained that the Sudanese government has been exploiting the referendum for South Sudan in order to begin a new wave of attacks in Darfur. UN police forces have said that that the Sudanese army has prevented their people from supervising activities in the conflicted areas.
