'UNIFIL denies report of IDF tank crossing into Lebanon'

UNIFIL spokesman Neeraj Singh disputed a report that an IDF tank had briefly crossed the Lebanese border on Wednesday, Lebanese newspaper an-Nahar reported.
An earlier report had claimed that a single IDF tank had advanced four meters past the Blue Line, a UN demarcation of the Israel-Lebanon border, near the Lebanese village of Adaysseh. According to AFP, an alarm was sounded after civilians on the Lebanese side of the border were seen approaching the frontier. According to Lebanese reports, the civilians were picking herbs.
The IDF spokesperson said it was unaware of an incident along the border.
The reported incident took place in the same location where an IDF officer was killed by a Lebanese sniper last August. That shooting occurred as an IDF force was cutting down a tree between the UN Blue Line and the border fence that Israel built. Some portions of the fence lie south of the Blue Line and the area in between is often disputed by Lebanon.
