US-led forces conduct 21 air strikes in Iraq, one in Syria

WASHINGTON - US and allied forces conducted 21 air strikes in Iraq and one in Syria against Islamic State militants on Wednesday, the US military said on Thursday.
The single strike in Syria hit a militant tactical unit near Raqqa, the Combined Joint Task Force said. Raqqa is the Islamic State stronghold where activists reported Syrian warplanes had mounted a dozen air strikes on Thursday.
The strikes in Iraq included eight near Mosul that destroyed 35 fighting positions and five tactical units, four near Baiji that destroyed 14 vehicles and three near Sinjar that destroyed a fighting position, the task force said in a statement.
